PS – This is no knock on you or Tom Peters. I don’t mind an evolution in thinking. I just think much of this is gimmicky. Being a decent human being isn’t sexy or interesting so no one talks about it.
PS2 – Being a decent human being isn’t easy, either. The conflict and tension in the workplace keeps us employed as HR professionals, though.
@Laurie – I actually think you’re right. This is gimmicky. I think what Tom’s getting at is that organizations often put so much focus on doing the right thing for the customer while neglecting their “internal customers.”
I like what you said, though. Treat employees like people.

I remember when we were supposed to treat our employees like owners, stockholders, stakeholders, brand advocates, and then evangelists.
Now it’s customers.
Okay, how about we just treat them like human beings?
