I always encourage recruiters to think of job postings as a marketing tool instead of just a list of duties and job requirements. One thing I’d love to see are video job postings, featuring conversations with the recruiter, hiring manager, and maybe some of the coworkers. This could be a great way to connect with the candidate and build an employer brand.

We posted a question in a survey to employers about providing videos for job seekers, 90% were against. I am going out on a limb, I believe videos of candidates is a part of the screening process that will be embraced in the future. Our company is going to move forward on promoting this feature/benefit.

@Doug – The companies that refuse to embrace new and innovative ways of doing things are going to lag far, far behind in the competition for the best talent. I’m not saying that video job postings are the end-all, be-all, but what you just described is, I think, a systemic issue with far too many HR organizations – an unwillingness to embrace new ideas.
Hi Chris/Doug, i totally agree, video is the way forward and adds another dimension to job vacancies (brings the job to life)and it would also allow corporates the opportunity to sell the benefits of working for their organisation and therefore attract the best talent. The ‘next’ generation of jobseekers are all savvy in the online world and using video is second nature to them. I too am going out on a limb and i am 2 weeks away from launching http://www.salesprorecruitment.co.uk which embraces video vacancies and also video profiles. I think video profiles will work particularly well in sales recruitment as after all sales pro’s should be confident enough to do a 60 sec video profile of themselves demonstrating their presentation skills. Most sales professionals have to do a sales presentation of some sort at interview stage so why not embed a 60-90sec video profile of themselves in their CV this would at least allow sales recruiters and sales employers the opportunity to view cnadidates before inviting them in for a first interview.
@Russ – I think one of the key things about video resumes from sales candidates is, as you point out, doing that sort of thing is a key part of being in sales. A video resume may be a nice way to see their stuff in action.
I worry that if video resumes become widespread for use in jobs like engineering or finance, where they have no relevance to the job, they would block out some people who are great at the job but not at being on camera.
Thanks for the comments, and good luck on your launch!
Chris
