As a proponent of ‘family-friendly’ workplaces, I think, it would be helpful to know the context in which Pink makes this statement. FF means many things to many people. Certainly Pink and I view the world through our unique perspectives based on our DNA and our experiences. Well, no d’uh! So, perhaps its time to retire the ‘family-friendly’ phrase from our lexicon. What shall we replace it with? Life-friendly? How’s that for ambiguity.
Thanks for the note. Keep up the good work!

G’Day Chris,
I’m afraid that I’ve yet to read Dan Pink, But I’m with him on this, People who work effectively together, find ways to “get on.” Good interpersonal relationships and “family friendliness” are no guarantee of efffective workplace collaboration.
As a consultant, I’ve had a number of experiences where close relationships inhibited effective on job performance, even among managers,
It’s remarkable how tolerant and accepting of each other that employees become when they’re part of a successful entity, inside or outside the workplace.
Make sure you have fun.

Leon
Patty – I didn’t read the source paper that Dan refers to, but I’d imagine that’d be a good place to start. Cheers!
