Best Buy has a unique way of managing their employees: You can do whatever you want, whenever you want, as long as your work gets done. That means you can work from the beach, sleep until noon, or sneak out midday to catch a movie.
They don’t when or how you do your work. They care about your outcomes. It’s actually a lot like being in college.

My filter at work blocks the presentation, so thanks for including the MP3! Can’t wait to listen!
@Ben – Looking forward to hearing what you think!
Very interesting presentation. Thanks for sharing!
@Trish – Thanks, and glad you liked it!
I LOVE the comparison with college.
@Eva – Thanks. It’s how ROWE feels to me, anyways. And I LOVED college, so if I could make work more like that, why not?
It seems like college is when we peak in terms of how much we trust people to manage their own work, and then we sort of revert back to high school/middle school management.
I commented on the other post, but that was awesome. I can’t wait to get my hands on the “Why Work Sucks” book.
I agree wholeheartedly about the college-peak idea. When I was able to choose my own classes, attendance times, etc., I was a much better student. Plus, with the added factor of studying what I actually enjoyed, it really changed the way I look at education. Now I take every experience as a way to learn something new (like finding a cool blog about something called “Renegade HR”). :-)
