2-Liters, Pepsi Throwback, and Changes that Matter

On the radio last week, I heard an advertisement for a major soda company. They were bragging about the new shape of their 2-liter bottles.

They’re contoured now, so they’re easier to hold. “Now it’s easier than ever to enjoy our product with your family!”

Really?

Has anyone ever said, “Should I buy this soda? Nah! The bottle is too hard to hold!” Probably not.

Believe it or not, you’ve been building an employer brand your whole career. And even if you’re not that familiar with social media, you already understand the principles behind it.

Employer branding is simply talking to people about your culture. Social media is just online conversation.

You already talk about your culture. You’re in HR. That’s what you do. Social media just takes the conversation and moves it online.

I think world-class recruiting is really about three things:

  1. Building a pipeline of qualified talent before you need to hire someone.
  2. Accurate, valid selection criteria.
  3. A fantastic candidate experience.

Those three things are the real game-changers. Everything else is just fluff.
